How durable is the canvas compared to FRP?

Obviously the canvas skin is not going to be as durable. General care should be taken but nothing that really impedes the use of the vessel.

What if I do tear the canvas?

It depends where the tear is but generally you can use a hook needle and stitch it together keep the thread close together and then build up 3-4 coats of paint in that area.

What if I tip out, what should I do?

Again where you are, how far out you are from the shore and if you have support of a fallow kayaker. It is always best to leave the kayak upside down and pull it to shore. On shore roll it on its side and the water will drain from the side outlet. NEVER TRY TO PICK UP THE KAYAK WITH WATER IN IT!

How should I care for it?

Do not leave it for any long period of time exposed to the elements. Get in the habit of rinsing it down flushing it out as per above and putting it under cover.

Can I carry supplies inside?

Absolutely, we always suggest putting them in water tight covering and just try to balance your load.

Are there any advantages to a classic craft like this over current modern kayaks?

There are no real comparisons there will always be a select few who will want the individuality and pride of having built it themselves. At any water way there will be always a lot of interest in your craft. Then there are others who will buy something plastic off the shelf.

How durable is the exterior finish compared to FRP?

There is no real difference. General care should be taken but nothing that really impedes the use of the vessel.

What if I smash a hole in the side?

It depends where the damage is but generally you can back block it and then scarf in a new piece of plywood, fill it and paint it. To repair a wood boat has to be the easiest of all boat building methods.

How much can it carry?

This was primarily designed as a tender thus the removable seat. You can carry up to about 200 kg .Generally it is just common sense. Removing the seat and sitting on your supplies out to the launch or yacht is very useful.

What is the maximum HP out board I can use?

Do not exceed 2.5 hp. Even with a 2hp two stoke is will get up on the plan.

How well does it tow behind a launch?

Really well and offers very little drag especially compared to an inflatable. We suggest keeping your speed under 8 knots or bring it up on a dinghy divot. Being so light it is not that difficult to make arrangements to lft on board the main vessel, weather a life or davits.

This was primarily designed as a fishing diving vessel. It can carry 240 kg. There is plenty of covered storage in each of the pontoons. It is always important to distribute the weight as this will impact the performance of the boat.

How stable is it?

Very stable, you can comfortably stand in it and is well suited for soft baiting where casting is involved.

What is the maximum HP out board I can use?

Do not exceed 10 hp even with a 6hp you will get good performance with two adults on board.
